About John Foster:
Living life to me is art. I have found after living many years that, whether we know it or not, like it or not, we all create our own worlds. Each of us paint and sculpt masterpieces in time and space on the canvass of multi dimensional eternal existence. Yet each of us lives in the here and now in an isolated body box of personal perception. We create with the brushes and chisels of the five senses….and other mysterious tools of which most of us are not normally aware. Some of those mysterious tools are unspoken messages that come to me when I create art. I create in partnership with The Prime Creator of our mysterious vast Eternal Universe. When I paint in the mountains, something unknown and the mountains silently talk to me. The great unknown can talk to you as well, though viewing any art created with any medium…physical, spiritual, or otherwise.

***John Foster is old…the Bio is long, but interesting ***
I was born and raised in the Heartland USA…where my wife and I presently live. We live in the house where I was raised, not too far from the home where I was born. However, my life-long friend/wife “Annie,” our three children and I have lived a wonderful diverse life ranging from the heartland in Lincoln to the plains and Mountains of Wyoming, to the beautiful coast of California, to the grandeur of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, then back to the wholesomeness of the flat land prairies of Nebraska …where life is honest and true, where one can create the miracles of the world (which include our three children, of course).
We have traveled in most all states of the United States and several provinces in Canada, including a couple of trips through the Canadian Rocky Mountains. We took one lengthy cruise in the Gulf of Mexico.
As a young man, one of my deepest desires was to be a professional artist.
And I am an 80 year old artist who has had professional experience in many areas, including electro-mechanical research and development engineering…in the nuclear, aerospace, fluidic, civil and commercial fields. The advanced projects in which I played a part normally were on the frontiers of science. This includes: 1) the startup and testing of a one-of-a-kind power plant nuclear reactor, 2) the environmental testing of a one-of-a-kind/first-of-it’s-kind nuclear satellite that was launched into orbit, 3) the research and development of advanced motors and generators to be used in the guidance systems of space rockets and ICBMs. 4) the research and development of a one-of-a-kind/first-of-it’s-kind science, including the design and testing of integrated systems and discrete components. (That new science was Fluidics – a sister science to electronics), and 5) a few other state-of-the-art things.
I’ve also been a home designer/builder, general contractor owner/operator, owner/partner of a convenience store, and author and illustrator of a variety of professional literature and author and illustrator of three personal books. I’ve been a Forest Service Fire Guard and worked at a remote logging camp in the Western Wyoming wilderness. As a wrangler in Western Wyoming, I broke and trained horses, as well as green horn dudes who had arrived from the eastern and western states and other parts of the world. I began my engineering career as an engineering aid at the Nebraska Interstate Highway Design Department when it was first being constructed (highway design and surveying). I work in one of the first United States open pit uranium mines, in charge of the development of new ore extraction methods…as well as surveying for staking new mining claims.
I’ve had higher education in several fields, including Architecture, basic engineering courses, Ethics and Geology, among several other subjects…also electronic, pneumatic and fluidic systems/logic design….but all without a formal degree. And of course, I received an advanced education from the several professions in which I have had significant experience, including as above research and development engineering on the frontiers of science.
Events & Exhibitions:
I’ve received very positive reviews from a variety of galleries and artists. A significant number of people have collected my works of art throughout the decades. I have sold several at significant prices. Local galleries have handled my work and I won first place in one of three art shows that I entered:
1) I won first place in a local city-wide show three decades ago.
2) I won second place in a State Fair show many decades ago. And
3) After the third show, a regional show which took place in Wyoming a few decades ago, I was told I would have won a ribbon, but because I had used a historic photo to paint the piece, I was disqualified for a prize.
4) (…forgot, I won second place with a hand soap sculpture in a city-wide/State Fair show when I was in the Second Grade, when I was 7 years old.)
I received positive reviews and was asked to place my paintings in a few of the top galleries in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and in other galleries in New Mexico, Colorado, Nebraska, and Wyoming. I quit my engineering position and prepared a significant number of paintings to become a full time artist. But sadly, shortly afterward the bottom fell completely out of the art market. Old time successful artists were forced to wash dishes in local taverns and all night cafes. This forced me back into the engineering department of an electronics firm, where I continued to create art in my spare time and designed art and other functions related to control systems.
Beyond all of this, I still remain a now old fine artist.
